Law Enforcement Responses to People with Opioid Use Disorders

Presented by SAMHSA GAINS Center, law enforcement officers often experience firsthand how the mental health and substance use crises affect their communities. With the number of law enforcement interactions involving opioids on the rise, there is now a greater push to train about opioid use disorders and medication-assisted treatment (MAT). In 2018, the CIT ECHO program in New Mexico developed an opioid-specific curriculum for officers. This webinar will examine the curriculum that was developed, the impact on officer knowledge and responses, and new partnerships established as a result of the focus on opioids and MAT.
