Methamphetamine Use Disorders: Considerations from across the Sequential Intercept Model (SIM)

Jul 16 2020

Presented by BJA and COSSAP, while much focus and funding has been devoted to combating the opioid epidemic, many communities have begun or continued to grapple with the impacts of methamphetamine use disorders.

Unlike opioid use disorders, there are no medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of methamphetamine use disorders and these disorders have historically been addressed through criminal justice responses. However, as many criminal justice professionals learn about the science of addiction and changes in the brain that occur due to substance misuse, there is growing interest in addressing issues related to methamphetamines using a public health approach. This webinar will explore emerging or promising practices across the SIM to address the needs of individuals with methamphetamine use disorders who interface with the justice system.

In this webinar, we will:

  • Describe unique challenges to addressing the needs of individuals with methamphetamine use disorder.
  • Discuss ways behavioral health and criminal justice partners can work together to support the recovery of individuals with methamphetamine use disorders.
  • Examine how support for individuals for methamphetamine use disorders can be tailored at various intercepts of the SIM.
