Post-charge Diversion and Deferred Prosecution Program

Description: 
CJS is a post-charge diversion/deferred prosecution program allowing for diversion from the offender's criminal charges while they receive treatment and services. The CJS program provides individuals the opportunity to change life circumstances and become alcohol and/or drug free. This is accomplished by a comprehensive assessment (LS/CMI) and treatment (chemical and mental health), intensive supervision, random drug and alcohol testing, court appearances, case management meetings, and case plans.

Pre-arrest Diversion Program (Proxy)

Description: 
Funding will be used by the Buffalo/Pepin Community Justice Services (CJS) Program to plan/implement CJS Pre-Charge. Funds pay for CJS staff compensation, participant rewards/incentives, drug testing/confirmation levels, drug patches, alcohol monitoring, contracted AODA, mental health assessments, treatment and office/program supplies. . Program purpose is to provide alternatives to incarceration and divert individuals from the criminal justice system into treatment and other appropriate services to meet their assessed needs. The CJS Program is designed to promote fairness and equal treatment by utilizing evidence-based LSI: R and LS/CMI assessments, based on objective factors relevant to public safety and the success of justice-involved individuals. The program will increase public safety, reduce harm, by averting incarceration and its negative consequences for appropriate persons and offenses in favor of options that present a minimal risk to public safety and an opportunity for rehabilitation and improved quality of life.
