Description:
Intoxicated Drivers Improvement Program (IDIP) provides an alternative sentencing option for those charged with a misdemeanor/criminal traffic OWI in Pierce County. The voluntary program begins for the defendant prior to plea/sentencing. An alcohol monitor is required for a minimum of 30-90 days. IDIP provides case management along with referrals to treatment, drug/alcohol testing, case planning, assignments, and any other assistance/referrals that may be needed. In lieu of compliance at sentencing, clients are provided with guidelines that the Judge may impose. Sentences are largely converted to electronic home monitoring meaning no actual physical jail time or a shorter physical time in jail followed by longer sentences on electronic home monitoring. If there is a driver safety plan, it is monitored for follow through and compliance. Court services worker also provides updates to the Circuit Court, District Attorney’s office, and defense attorney’s, if applicable.
